Is earthing mandatory for solar CoC in South Africa?
Yes – SANS 10142-1 and NRS 097-2-1 require proper equipotential bonding and earthing of all PV frames, inverter chassis and AC/DB earth.
Do I need Type 1 or Type 2 surge protectors?
Type 1+2 combined SPDs on AC & DC side are recommended in high lightning areas (KZN, Gauteng, Limpopo). Type 2 sufficient in low-risk Western Cape.
What is included in a standard earthing kit?
Typical kit: 1.5m copper-bonded rod, clamp, 16mm² green/yellow earth cable, inspection pit, exothermic weld or chemical compound option.
